Griffith University's new rowing coach Mr Gordon Cameron has wasted no time in displaying the potential of the Gold Coast's young students.
Engineering student Cameron Rumball was born and bred on the Nerang River being a product of the famed rowing academy of The Southport School.
Like so many TSS boys "Rumball" (as the girls of the GURC whisper), found himself with plenty of experience, talent but without a coach to help his sculling along on the Gold Coast.
Griffith University's bold vision to follow the University of Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland and appoint a program coordinator could not have been better timed for young Cameron.
"Getting my first Queensland zooty is a huge honour. Looking at the guys and girls coming through I feel I'll be the first of many to go from the red superman suit to maroon."
Cameron will row the lightweight single scull for Qld at the Penrith Olympic course at the Australian Youth Cup.
The Youth Cup brings together U21 men's and women's state teams from Australia and New Zealand and acts as a great stepping stone for young rowers interested in a getting involved in elite rowing competition.
It's mid year timing makes it perfect for Griffith Unviersity students to train for in semester 1 each year once arriving at University.
"Rumballs a great example of a guy that can set a goal and work towards it. I encourage anyone interested in becoming the next Griffith Uni Surfers Paradise Rowing Club member to represent the great state of Queensland to give me a call and come for a scull." Head Coach Gordon Cameron said.
